Internal OperationsOn the road or in our corporate headquarters, we are constantly striving for ways to be more eco-conscious.

• As of January 2010, we have 32 sites hosting rooftop solar installations and another 100 sites under consideration for hosting solar systems. Solar power provided an estimated 4.9 million kWh of clean energy for Staples’ facilities in 2009.
• We recognize the value to our business of an environmental management system and have obtained ISO14001 certification in over 30 facilities throughout Europe.
• In many of our delivery vehicles we use speed limiters, which keep emissions to a minimum and maximize fuel efficiency.
• We have installed Jivaro technology in some facilities that minimizes the waste in our shipping boxes, as the machines automatically cut the boxes to the right level of fill.
• Our implementation of lighting sensors in many facilities further reduces our energy consumption.
